An hour's seawatching this morning produced 6 manxies N, Gannets, 14 Wigeon, 3 Teal, Guilllemots, Razorbills, Rt Diver N and a cracking juv Long Tailed Skua flew North close in. It was right over the rocks on the point and I was getting good views of it till a dog walker stopped right in front of me. How dare he stop on a public footpath... lol
A very welcome addition to my year list if I still kept it properly.
15/9/11 Partly Cloudy 14c Wind E 4 Mph
In the wetland bushes this morning were a couple of Robins, Blue Tit and whilst trying to string a Firecrest out of the few Goldcrests seen. I heard a few Skylarks passing overhead. On the Wetland a Moorhen with a 2-3 week old chick, that's 3 broods it's had this year. 20+ Swallows were also here along with Meadow Pipit and 5 Pied Wagtails.
In the west field a female Sparrowhawk was hunting and about a dozen Black Headed Gulls were following the plough. In the North bay a Merlin was being mobbed by Oystercatchers. 5-600 Golden Plover here along with a few Curlew and Redshanks.
The Fox was showing well on the Wetland and I also saw a small frog along the footpath.
on Tuesday 13/9/11 I had a single Wheatear and 2-3 House Martin here.....
5/9/11 Mostly Cloudy 14c Wind SW 20 Mph
A quick visit this morning produced 1000+ Golden Plover, 2 Bar Tailed Godwits, Dunlin, 4 Ringed Plover but the best of the visit was 1000+ Swallows and the odd Sand Martin mixed in migrating. They were everywhere in the north bay, the west field, overhead even out to sea. They were moving just in front of a storm front. An absolute pleasure to watch and well worth the soaking...
